3 Reasons You Should Be Using Socrative as a Teacher

How to Use Socrative Teacher

Socrative is a powerful apple and android app in which teachers can encourage students to participate in the classroom in a variety of different ways. Socrative can be used as a clicker system in the classroom as well as being used to grade student's short answer and multiple choice quizzes. It has many benefits which are outlined in the article below.

Can Be Used as a Clicker

The first use of Socrative is you can use it as a clicker system in your classroom. Students when entering your room can sign in to your room on Socrative. This allows them and only them to follow along with you while using their phones. There are two main types of questions you can ask when using Socrative as a clicker system. The first one is you can ask your students to vote on yes and no on opinion questions. The second, which is my favorite, is asking students to post what answer they achieved on a certain question. In that way you are getting instant feedback on what your students are capable of at that particular time.

Saves You Time and Energy

The second use of Socrative is its ability to grade multiple choice and short answer quizzes for you. You can create a quiz on your computer using Socrative online and then give it to your students during class. The app then grades the students quizzes and puts them in alphabetical order. Some of the key features of Socrative quizzes is that students do not have the ability to cheat. If they try to open a different application on their phone then they have to sign back in to Socrative. When they sign back in they are listed twice allowing you to see that they have cheated. The next key feature is it allows you to put more than one answer for short answer questions. This is important because 16 x and 16x are the same thing but they are written slightly different. This allows students to receive credit for both answers. Creating the quizzes takes a little more time than creating one on a word document but after that you are done because Socrative grades it for you and you can use it from year to year.

Allows You to See Commonly Missed Problems Very Easily

As teachers we are being pushed to use data driven instruction more in our classrooms. Socrative allows us an easy way to do this. It will tell you when it grades quizzes how many students missed each problem on the quiz. If almost all of the students missed a certain problem then you now know easily and can go back over that problem.
