Rule Creation for AutomateIt
AutomateIt is such a powerful tool for your phone but the question is how to best utilize it. In this article are a list of the rules I have created to maximize the potential of this great app. The key idea to remember is to create rules that interact with other rules. These rules are all done with the free version.
App Opening/Closing Rules
Alarm to Pandora - Anytime my alarm goes off my Pandora is opened and starts playing with a delay of 2 minutes. The delay allows you to cancel it if you wish.
Alarm Sound - This AutomateIt rule is anytime my Alarm goes off it turns up my media volume to 100%.
GPS Sound - Anytime Google Maps is opened it turns up my media volume to 100%.
Pandora Sound - Anytime Pandora is opened it turns up my media volume to 80%.
Headphone Rules
Headphone Pandora - This AutomateIt rule is anytime the headphone jack is plugged into Pandora is opened and starts playing.
Headphone Exit - Anytime the headphone jack is plugged out of it returns to my home screen.
Headphone Sound - This AutomateIt rule is anytime the headphone jack is plugged into the media volume is turned to 100% on a 20 second delay. This allows it to open Pandora automatically by Headphone Pandora and then set the volume to 100% after. If the delay was not used Pandora Sound would set the volume back to 80%.
Headphone Turn off Silent Mode - Anytime the headphone jack is plugged into it turns the ringer of my phone on.
Screen On - This AutomateIt rule is anytime the headphone jack is plugged into this rule turns my screen timeout to never. I plug my phone into a charger and listen to Pandora while riding in the car through my car's stereo so I want to be able to mess with the screen without having to hit the on button.
Screen Off - Anytime the headphone jack is plugged out of this rule turns my screen timeout to 30 seconds. I use this because of Screen On so if you don't want Screen On you probably do not need this rule.
GPS Sound Disable - This AutomateIt rule is anytime the headphone jack is plugged into GPS Sound is disabled. This allows me to switch back to Google Maps and still have the volume set to 100% by Headphone Sound.
GPS Sound Enable - Anytime the headphone jack is plugged out of this rule enables the rule GPS sound. I use this because of GPS Sound Disable so if you don't want GPS Sounds Disable you probably do not need this rule.

Location Triggers
Time Triggers
Alarm Enable - This rule turns my Alarm to Pandora rule on at 3 am each morning.
Alarm Disable - This AutomateIt rule turns off my Alarm to Pandora rule off at 1 pm every day. This allows if I set an alarm to remember to do something to not have my Pandora automatically open.
Disable Sound Home - This turns off my Sound Home rule at 10:30 pm every night allowing me to sleep without triggering this rule and then my ringer going off.
Enable Sound Home - This turns on the Sound Home rule at 6 am every morning allowing this rule to function throughout the day.
Turn Off Sound Weekday Nights - This AutomateIt rule triggers at 11 pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday turning my phone to silent mode allowing me to sleep throughout the night.
Turn Off Sound Weekend Nights - This rule triggers at 12 am on Friday and Saturday turning my phone to silent mode allowing me to sleep throughout the night.
Vibrate for Mornings - This AutomateIt rule activates at 5:59 am everyday turning the phone to vibrate. My phone does not switch between silent, vibrate, and loud easily so this allows it to be switched back on the lock screen. The idea is that a 6 am Sound Home is enabled and therefore if you are at home Sound Home should be activated
